Atique Ahmed is a well-known Indian politician with a long and contentious political career. He was born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, on August 5, 1962, and grew up in a political family. Mohammed Yunus’ father was a member of the Indian National Congress and a Member of Parliament from Phulpur.
Atique Ahmed first entered politics in the early 1990s, when he joined the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). In 1993 and 1996, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Allahabad West constituency. As a BSP candidate, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Phulpur constituency in 1998.
Atique Ahmed’s political career, on the other hand, has been marred by controversies and criminal cases. He has been charged with murder, extortion, and kidnapping, among other crimes. In 2003, he was arrested and charged with the murder of Krishnanand Rai, a BJP MLA, and his associates. Due to a lack of evidence, he was later acquitted in the case.
Atique Ahmed was expelled from the BSP in 2005 as a result of his criminal activities and involvement in several cases. He then founded his own political party, the Apna Dal, and was elected to the Allahabad West Legislative Assembly in 2007. In the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, he was also elected as an MLA.
His controversial statements and actions have defined Atique Ahmed’s political career. He has been chastised for his inflammatory speeches and incitement of violence. He was in the news again in 2019 for allegedly assaulting a government employee.
Despite the controversy surrounding him, Atique Ahmed has a sizable following in Uttar Pradesh. Many of his supporters regard him as a “don” because of his strong-arm tactics. His influence in Allahabad and the surrounding areas cannot be underestimated.
