He completed his graduation from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University and then studied acting at National School of Drama, New Delhi and Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. He was Anupam Kher’s class mate at National School of Drama.

Career of Satish Kaushik.

He grew up in Naiwala Gali, Karol Bagh, Delhi, then moved to Pune after completing his graduation and joined the Film and Television Institute of India. Although he is one of the established film actors, he is still associated with theatre. One of his famous roles as a theater artist is “Willy Loman” in ‘Salesman Ramlal’ (Hindi language play). In 1983, he got a chance to work with Shekhar Kapur as an assistant director in the film ‘Masoom’. He also appeared as an actor in the film.

He wrote the dialogues in The Bollywood movie Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron (1983) directed by Kundan Shah. Shah also worked in the roles of assistant director, actor and producer. His first directorial venture came in the form of Roop Ki Rani, Choron, Raja (1993) with Sridevi, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Johnny Lever and Anupam Kher. The second film he directed is Prem (1995). Both films did poorly on the screen. Despite facing failure, he did not stop making films. In 1999, he gave Bollywood his first hit, Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain. In 2003, his directorial venture “Tere Naam”, starring Salman Khan and Bhumika Chawla, won public and critical acclaim at the box office.

He co-founded a film company called ‘Karol bagh Productions’ together with Anupam Kher who was his fellow student at NSD .His 2009 project as a director Tere Sang examines the issue of teenage pregnancy. It was the first film to be made by his production company.
