The title Yahshua is rich in spiritual meaning for both Christianity and Messianic Judaism. The word yahshua is favored by many in this movement because it captures the Jewish heritage and role of the Messiah in God’s plan of salvation.
For Messianic Jews, the Yahshua meaning strengthens the concept of salvation being Hebrew and prophetic. They redefine Jesus as a First-century Jew, and tend to stress the importance of knowing him in his First-century Jewish context (the biblical feasts, biblical dietary laws, the Sabbath, etc.). Though Jesus is the name most Christians recognize as the name of Christ with more or less unanimous agreement, Yahshua — they say — is far more theologically loaded because it ties the Messiah to the Hebrew scriptures immediately.
