The Philadelphia 76ers chose Jared McCain with the 16th choice in the 2024 NBA Draft.

The one-and-done player, who started in all 36 games the previous season, had an outstanding rookie campaign. During the Blue Devils’ Elite Eight run, he put on some of his greatest performances. Twice in March Madness, he scored thirty or more points. In the Round of 32, McCain hit eight triples against James Madison, a freshman record.

Despite being only six feet three, McCain averaged 14.3 points and five rebounds per game. He showed off his skill with the ball on the glass with four double-doubles during the season. Regardless of his offensive production, the Sacramento, California native puts forth a consistent effort.

McCain needed some time to get used to the college game, but he maintained his composure and got better every game of the season. McCain filled in during games with a lot of minutes while Duke’s backcourt was dealing with injuries. In Tyrese Proctor’s absence, he scored a career-high 35 points against Florida State, tying Zion Williamson for the Blue Devil freshman scoring record. That game showed that McCain can successfully penetrate defenses and is more than just a catch-and-shoot scorer.

In addition to his prodigious skill on the court, McCain’s regular practice of mindfulness and meditation will prepare him well for the demands of the NBA season. McCain gives the 76ers a deadly jump shot and unwavering intensity.
