Introduction
One of the questions that I come across is very common in Croydon. Being the owner of our painting company at Phoenix Driveways for over 35 years, one of the most common questions I’m getting at this time of year is about the main difference between brick staining and brick painting in Croydon. Both are very viable ways of painting or staining your house, but there are seven main reasons for brickwork in Croydon. I want to outline here why brick staining is far superior to brick painting in my 35 years of experience.
Reason #1: Longevity (Long-lasting Results)
Longevity is, without a doubt, a significant factor in the brickwork in Croydon. Brick staining lasts significantly longer than brick painting. If you’re lucky, brick painting lasts five to ten years max before it starts to peel. When it peels, it looks terrible; it peels and scales, and it’s really hard to prep and repaint. Also, it’s not healthy for your bricks, which we’ll get into next. The fact that it lasts significantly longer means we have a 15-year warranty for that. But the fact is, in the US, they’ve been using it a lot longer than us in the UK, and it lasts over 30 years. A lot of them are telling me it lasts academically longer, more than ten times the time than brick painting. It’s a long-term solution, not just something that’s going to peel in five years, and you have to redo it again.
Reason #2: Health
The second main reason is the health of the bricks. I already touched on this before because it’s stained; stain actually sinks into the brick, as opposed to paint which sits on top of the brick. Paint covers it well, but it sits on top of the brick, so it traps moisture, air, and any kind of water, whereas brick stain allows it to breathe. That’s a huge advantage. It’s very healthy for the bricks, and at the same time, it protects the bricks because it gives them a layer of protection from the weather elements of the exterior. So that’s a huge advantage. It’s healthy for the bricks, protects them, allows them to breathe and doesn’t peel like brick paint.
Reason #3: Cost-effective
Brick staining is cost-effective. Initially, the brick stain is a little more expensive, anywhere from 10 to 20 percent more. The reason being but because it’s a lot more expensive than brick paint, and it also takes a lot more prep in terms of making sure everything’s covered. It’s a very liquidy brick stain because it’s like water, so you have to protect everything that the prep, making sure that it’s everything’s protected around it is a lot more difficult and takes a lot more time. But the fact is it lasts, it costs maybe a little bit more, 10 to 20 percent, it’ll last like seven to ten times longer, 30 plus years like I said. Whereas brick paint, if you’re lucky, you get five to ten years out of it. Also, it’s not healthy for your bricks because it actually can deteriorate the bricks from the inside out because it traps the moisture inside. So the fact is, cost-effective 10 to 20 more initially, but the last, you know, seven to ten times longer, a huge advantage.
Reason #4: Colour Options
Brick stain is superior to brick paint because the colours give you a lot more options. So a lot of customers ask, can I match this colour, that colour?
Absolutely, yes, we can match every paint colour, which is great for solid stains and semi-transparent stains. Semi-transparent stains are basically diluted solid stains, so they show more of the brick’s nuances and different colours. That’s what semi-transparent stain is used for.
The other very common thing that’s starting to get colours a lot of questions is lime washing. So, to me, lime washing is another option, but it’s more of a full finish, something a little more decorative than a traditional brick stain. So there are a lot more options, and it can match almost every colour I’ve ever seen in terms of paint colour, so you get the best of both worlds when it comes to brickwork in Croydon.
Reason #5: Natural Appearance
The fifth main reason brick staining is superior to brick painting is that it’s more natural and makes the brick look much more natural. Do a close-up here; give me an example. See all the little crevices, nuances, and natural organic look of the brick. So that’s a huge advantage over brick paint. Brick paint covers, which are great, show a nice colour, but the main problem with brick paint is that it’s too thick and takes away the natural organic appearance of a brick. So, to me, the appearance looks hugely superior and keeps the natural appearance of a brick.
Conclusion
In conclusion, for those residing in Croydon, the advantages of brick staining over brick painting are undeniable. With its significant longevity, health benefits for your bricks, cost-effectiveness, vast colour options, and a more natural appearance, brick staining stands as a superior choice. After 35 years of first hand experience, I strongly advocate for brick staining as the most durable, visually appealing, and economical solution for maintaining the integrity and beauty of your home’s exterior. Choose brick staining to ensure a lasting, quality finish for your property. For More Articles: https://empireadda.com/
