49-year-old actress Tamayo Perry from “Pirates of the Caribbean” dies in a shark attack.

49-year-old "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor Tamayo Perry perishes in a shark attack.

Actor Tamayo Perry of Pirates of Caribbean passed away in Hawaii as a result of a shark attack.
On Sunday afternoon, Perry, who also starred in Blue Crush and Hawaii Five-0, passed away while surfing at Malaekahana beach on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.

Local rescue personnel used a jetski to retrieve Perry’s body from the water after receiving a call at 1:00 pm reporting that someone had been “fatally injured by a shark.”

At a news conference, Honolulu Ocean Safety acting chief Kurt Lager described Perry as a professional surfer and lifeguard who was “loved by all” and well-known on Oahu’s North Shore as well as around the globe.

He went on, “People loved Tamayo because of his contagious personality, but he loved everyone else even more.” “We send our sympathies to Tamayo’s family.”

Perry played a buccaneer in Penélope Cruz and Johnny Depp’s fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series, On Stranger Tides. The Big Bounce, an Owen Wilson surfing film based on Elmore Leonard’s book, has him listed as a stunt performer as well.

Perry’s passing was hailed by Mayor Rick Blangiardi as “a tragic loss.” “Tamayo was a legendary and well-respected waterman who grew up here and was an excellent member of our ocean safety team.” Along with urging the public and media to “honor and respect” Perry’s family during their grieving process, Blangiardi also made this request.

According to the 2023 edition of the International Shark Attack File, curated by the Florida Museum of Natural History, there were barely 69 unprovoked shark attacks globally last year, 10 of which were fatal, despite the fact that they receive a disproportionate amount of mainstream media attention. Of all the regions in the world, the US state of Florida had the highest number of unprovoked shark attacks (16 total, none fatal).
